The season of loss
copyright John Sellwood 2010
Monday’s cancelled
Hard cracked earth
Frozen - grief’s cold embrace.
Where laughter warmed
Now death’s chill hand
Ice stabs now mark the place.
A hollow time
A fallow time
When all is falling inward
Cocoon me now
Deep faithful earth
A season’s hope still lingers.
For what is growth
When all is cold
The warmth of love remembered?
Echoes fanning
softening glow
Springtime’s promised embers
Season of grief
And sacred breath
Transition – eternal repeated
The turning cycle
Of dancing air
No life has ever cheated
The paradox
That seasons shift
At times too fast too soon
But equilibrium
Is nature’s call
A rising sun and moon.
So dance with me
To death my friend
Our life is not defeated
Accompanying us
Are those we love
When the mourning seasons greeted
